there was this guy he ran this company and one day he hired this girl he loved her and made ever one do what she said. But one person said no she doesn’t know what she is doing and ever one jump on that person. I see. I agree with you. The US has become a largely conservative country the last 30 years. I think the pendulum is swinging back slowly. I suspect left wing views are going to become more popular in the coming years, but you are right, there was an anti-left censorship in corporate media and on campuses founded by private endowments under Bush and perhaps it still is. It’s also evident that issues like Single payer healthcare or EU style capitalism are heavily censored in the US.

There is also another problem: if a speech goes into hate speech. I believe freedom of speech should not be extended to enemies of open society. Just because for example Denmark allows muslims to immigrate, it doesn’t mean that they should tolerate being bullied into censorship and intolerance, just as I don’t think I should have to tolerate the display of swastika in my neighborhood. As Karl Popper once said tolerant societies can’t tolerate 1 thing: intolerance.

Maher often doesn’t really know what going on; he just accepts some things you hear in the media. He needs to learn more, but most of his satire is in the correct direction. Maher shows how key it is to not be religious to order to be pushed in the right direction. (This applies much less for minorities, but that’s another story)
