My non-profit (youth hockey assoc) is fundraising with a raffle. Is there a way to sell tickets online?
My community youth hockey association is raffling off a Harley motorcycle to raise funds. Is it possible in the state of Wisconsin to sell the tickets through our web site, and if so, can that be done using Paypal or some other service?
I believe it's possible, but I also believe that you need to fill out certain paperwork to legally do it. I remember a couple had did something similar but with their house. Since it was a raffle, it's considered gambling in their state. So the winner of the raffle was required to pay taxes on her winnings.
There's has also been similar stories where people have tried it on Craigslist and eBay, so I'm pretty positive it's okay for you to do it since it's for a non-profit organization. But like I said, the only thing I would check is with your local laws in regards to giveaways and if there are any necessary paperwork that needs to be done by not just you, but also whoever wins the raffle.
Hope that helps and I wish you the best of luck with the fundraiser.
